Ya’ll I was reading this book to kindergarten and it almost brought tears to my eyes. Not because it’s sad because it isn’t but because I was in awe how much it reminded me of this season of waiting I am in. It is a perfect example of how most of us act when God tells us to wait. If you will please humor me for a couple of minutes and watch the video below of me reading the book, Waiting Is Not Easy!
Seriously, how many of us are just like Elephant? Content to wait for like a second, then give up and walk away, only to come back because we tried on our own and failed! The waiting seems to take forever and we moan and complain. We say, “Why me?”, “Why now?”, “When will the waiting be over?” We do not like to wait. We want things in our timing and that usually means NOW to us!
God’s timing is not our timing. But you can hold onto the promise of 1 Timothy 6:15, ” He’ll show up right on time, his arrival guaranteed by the Blessed and Undisputed Ruler, High King, High God.” Right when we are about to break, right when we truly can’t take it another second, right when things are at their very darkest, there He is! He shines His blessings on us! He will put an end to the waiting!
We shouldn’t rush the waiting though. I know that is easier said than done but in the waiting, He continues to mold us and refine us. He strengthens us. He blesses us. Our waiting is an exercise of trust. Some days I don’t know what to pray other than, “Lord, I trust you.” If we truly do trust Him, then we must wait well!
Waiting isn’t a punishment and it won’t last forever! While you are waiting, spend more time in His word. Pray. Continue to praise Him and live for Him! Don’t waste your season of waiting just sitting idly by. Pursue Him and His will for your life! He has much to teach us in the waiting! He is building our intimacy and dependency on Him in the waiting. He is transforming our character in the waiting and teaching us patience. I have learned many times He has protected me in the waiting because He knew pieces of the puzzle that I didn’t have at that moment much less know about. He is always working in the waiting even when it doesn’t feel like He is! We need the waiting period so He can ready us for the things we ask of Him!
I waited patiently for the Lord, and He inclined to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. Lamentations 3:25
Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14
When I got to the page that showed the beautiful night sky, my kinders were in such awe! I wish you could have seen their open mouths and big bright eyes! I could literally see in their faces what it feels like when God shows up for us exceedingly abundantly more than we ever expect! (Ephesians 3:20) They were amazed at the beauty on the page just like I am amazed by God and His promises. I am amazed at His beauty and His perfect timing!
Just as sure as the sun will rise and the darkness will disappear, the waiting will be over. Then we can join Elephant in saying, “That was worth the wait.” And it truly will be! Everything our God does is for our good and is worth it! So hold onto His promises. The scripture tells us the wait will be worth it. It tells us that those who wait will be blessed.
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him. Isaiah 30:18
Sandy,
This is beautiful and so true.
I was breaking, broken really as my husband passed away. I didn’t know who to turn to and I prayed like I never prayed before.
God saved me! He has comforted me in scriptures and has allowed angelic signs to reach me. I pray to ease my sorrow and to praise Him each day.
What is before me, I have No Clue but He has helped me through each agonizing day.
Your blogs are inspirational.
Thank you
Antonella
