We all go through those times where God seems silent. Times where we really feel like nothing is happening. We feel stuck! We feel like we have all this pain and no healing in sight! We want to do God’s will but we aren’t sure what that is!
I know this feeling well! It seems like I’ve been waiting for a long time for God to show me what to do next. I’ve been feeling stuck and unsure! I know He is working behind the scenes. I know He has the whole picture where I just have a small part of it! I know I should put my focus on Him instead of my loss and my hurt and my loneliness. I know that no matter what I do there are still going to be days that are hard! Days where I feel so far from God, but at the time I know He is there!
I never finished Lysa TerKeurst’s book It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way so I’ve picked it up again. Every time I start reading it, her words bless me and encourage me. They speak straight to me. I think that’s why I put it down. I wasn’t ready to hear it and that’s okay. We have to be in a place where we are ready to listen so that we will actually apply the lessons to our lives. I’m still not finished with the whole book. Most of the time when I read a book I just sit down and read the whole thing but this one I have to do it in small spurts because of the emotions it brings up for me. I like to take notes and really study each chapter and try to hear what the Lord wants to teach me through her words in this book.
I was looking at the Table of Contents to see what was ahead (I know I shouldn’t be looking ahead. I should be taking it one page at a time and just let it unfold but obviously that’s not what I did). I noticed at the end of the book after the epilogue was a section called “9 Scriptures for Surviving the Times When God Seems Silent”. I remember thinking I should’ve started there first because this was how I was feeling!
In this section, Lysa tells us that “God is not ignoring us; He’s restoring us!” That simple statement is so true! The Bible tells us of His promise to never leave us or forsake us! There are just going to be times when He has to break us in order to work in us!
She gave lies we often believe with scriptures we can use to defeat those lies. I wanted to share those scriptures with you today.
God longs to help us, and He leans in close to listen to us!
God longs to help us, and He cares about us deeply.
God longs to help us, and His strength is the answer for all our weaknesses.
God longs to transform us, and He’s making us more and more like Jesus.
God longs to transform us, and He promises He’ll complete the work He’s doing in us.
God longs to transform us and He is the one who will help us change.
God loves us, and He pursues us even when we act unlovable. (What a wonderful God and a wonderful love to have!)
God loves us, and He promises not to waste any of our pain.
God loves us, and He invites us to pour our heart out to Him honestly.
God absolutely wants to help us. He absolutely wants to transform us and He absolutely wants to love us!
Friend, if you feel stuck or you feel like God seems silent right now, just know He is working on your behalf every minute of the day! He is everything to everyone all of the time! He has a plan even if it doesn’t seem like it right now!
Stand firm in your FAITH!
Spend time praising Him, praying, and meditating on these Scriptures or other Scriptures you love! When I can’t take the silence, I fill it with worship music and His Word! It always helps! His peace washes over me and I’m reminded of His goodness and His love. I am reminded that He is always there!
We don’t have to feel good to trust there is good coming! So hold on to His promises and trust in Him! What you are feeling right now will not last forever!
GOOD IS COMING!!
